New Year's Confetti Poppers

Confetti time ... but make it math. Practicing making sets of one more and one less is a fantastic way to build early number sense. Why does early number sense matter? Too often we jump straight from counting to addition and subtraction, skipping over the important relationships between numbers. Understanding the relationships between numbers is how our children develop an ability to think critically about math.

Here’s why I love this activity:

  • 30 second set up

  • Great number sense practice

  •  A fun way to incorporate a little learning into New Year’s Eve

We opted to use pompoms instead of confetti, mostly because little sis was around and can’t be trusted not to eat it... but also I don’t want to be cleaning it up for the next two months. ;) If you don’t have pompoms, you could use pipe cleaners, Legos, Unifix Cubes, counting bears... lots of options.
